History of the College and Its Emblem

In the academic year 2009-10, MRK College of Arts and Science was established under the auspices of the MRK Memorial Educational Trust with the noble aim of serving the educational needs of students and parents in and around Kattumannarkoil, Cuddalore District. The college initially began with five undergraduate programs.

From the academic year 2010-11, three additional undergraduate programs were introduced, bringing the total to eight undergraduate programs. The institution continued to grow and evolve, and in the academic year 2013-14, it introduced two postgraduate programs, elevating its status from an undergraduate college to a college offering postgraduate courses as well. Further expansion occurred in the academic years 2017-18 and 2018-19 with the introduction of one postgraduate program each year. Today, the college proudly offers eight undergraduate and four postgraduate programs, operating with excellence and distinction.

Our emblem is a reflection of our values and vision. It features the image of the revered poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, symbolizing the wisdom and ethical living promoted by his teachings in the Tamil classic, Thirukkural. This reminds us of the importance of leading a principled life.

The emblem also includes a glowing lamp, representing the perpetual light of knowledge that guides individuals throughout their lives, encouraging everyone to live with enlightenment and purpose.

An open book in the emblem signifies the pursuit of knowledge and the importance of continuous learning in fostering an informed and enlightened society. Additionally, the emblem features the serene expanse of Veeranam Lake, an essential water source that sustains the region’s life and economy and quenches the thirst of Tamil Nadu’s capital city.

This inclusion reflects our gratitude and deep connection to the lifeline that Veeranam Lake represents.

The motto “My duty is to work” embodies the dedication and selfless service of the trust that founded the college, as well as the commitment of the faculty and staff to serve the community and the world at large.
